The Autumn Leaves

One Leaf in the Autumn Cycle

A yellow-green leaf rests among layers of brown fallen foliage. Its colour suggests that it has only recently joined the forest floor, while the leaves beneath it are further along in decay. That small contrast turns a simple close-up into a picture of transition.

Autumn is often photographed for its brilliant trees, but the cycle continues after the leaves fall. On the ground they soften, break down and return nutrients to the soil. What appears to be an ending becomes part of the conditions for future growth.

Finding a landscape in a small detail

This is not a wide scenic view. The close composition asks us to notice texture, spots, curled edges and overlapping shapes. The main leaf stands out through colour and focus, while the surrounding browns create a natural frame.

Travel photography becomes richer when we look down as well as outward. A single leaf can express the season just as clearly as an entire hillside. For me, this frame is about impermanence without sadness. Change is visible everywhere in nature, and the fallen leaf still has a role to play.
