Blur is Beautiful : Part 1

blur, photography tips, long exposure

Haven’t you heard blur is beautiful? They why did you delete that blurred Β picture last time??! πŸ˜‰ I know you did! πŸ˜€

At times I too delete them, But after realising blur can be beautiful, I think before deleting a picture. I rarely delete a picture by the way. Somehow I don’t feel like deleting any of my pictures and my laptop is suffering because of that habit. πŸ˜‰

So this is a humble attempt to prove that blur can be beautiful.

blur, photography tips, better photography, slow shutter speed
Blur is beautiful

This picture was taken while travelling. The blur is caused by the movement of the vehicle and a slower shutter speed.

Blur is beautiful

I wish I was good atΒ  editing. If I knew how to use Photoshop or any other pro-editing software probably I can edit it a bit and make it look like an abstract painting πŸ˜‰

I guess, it’s because I am incompetent in editing, I kind of dislike heavily photoshoped, heavily edited pictures. I believe in pictures that are almost straight off from the camera, with a bit of brightness, contrast correction, ie pictures withΒ  minor editing.Β  For all the pictures uploaded here, I used picasa to add water mark or frame and for minor colour correction.

Well I am drifting away from the main topic. I was trying to say that blur is beautiful. If you accept the imperfections and try to find the beauty in that, everything will change.Β  At least you will have an impressive travel photography album.

So do you think blur is beautiful?

  1. i sometimes specifically take blur pictures because they make good patterned background images. And I believe there is such a thing as blur photography. When I took photography in college we did a blur of sorts assignment and I know that sometimes the best blurs happen at night when you are on the street watching the cars go by.

But the really real blurred cannot see photo do get deleted.

But I also like and have taken pictures where it’s dark around the edges and there’s something in the center – i.e. a nephew/niece or the world outside. Taking shots that are a darkened doorway to the world outside is an interesting shot if you haven’t taken it before.

    1. Good to know that. And I do agree with you. Sometimes the blurred background gives you certain abstract images. And light trails are also nice. I will try what you have suggested as well πŸ™‚ Thank you for this very thoughtful feedback.

  2. I love the idea of saving blurry photos. I guess I don’t normally keep them unless they have a sense of artistry to them. I have a great photo I took of my husband driving a car past me that is very blurry but it gives a sense of motion. I have another photo he took of me in Paris at night that I love because it makes it look noire. Great idea for a post! Great “blurry” photos! I would be honored if you would stop by and check me out at bulldogtravels if you have the time!

    1. Good to know that you also likes the artistry blurry images. Thank you so much for taking your time to visit these posts. I would definitely check your blog πŸ™‚

  3. Sometimes blurry pictures are beautiful unless they’re too distorted. The photos still show the images so they are fine. Something I never thought about before.

  4. This is a new concept for me. Find beauty in blur. Nice, it would make me look at my shots in a whole new way. Till now, I have instantly deleted the blurred ones.

  5. They do look like abstract painting !!!!! Alas, point and shoot here,so shutter speed etc etc went tangential above my head πŸ˜€

      1. The problem with your pictures is that even the blur turn out great. You could convince me to take pictures in the night without flash nor tripod. As usual, yours would be awesome. Mine would be… kinda special πŸ˜‰ Keep it up, though, you are really inspiring!

  6. I like the blurs. I also keep virtually all my photos, but I have to take them off my phone periodically so I can keep taking more. πŸ™‚ Until recently, I never edited my photos but although I still like to have my photos stand on their own, I really enjoy the editing effects as well. I use Picasa 3, which is free and easy to use.

  7. Some photos can have a nice blur, but I think that’s probably more luck than judgment. Those are making my eyes go fuzzy though, but I can totally see the art in them πŸ™‚

    1. Some blurs are lucky if you are travelling. But some others are intentional to convey a sense of motion. Some other blurs are just made intentionally to make your eyes go fuzzy πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ I guess the Next post is for you.

          1. yes, that’s mine πŸ™‚
Maybe you can get such pictures with mobile camera with the help of a telescope. I haven’t tried. But I think it is possible.

  8. Wish I could share some blurred pictures, but they have seriously been all deleted. And there is truth in what you have shared, “Blur is beautiful”.
I also appreciate the fact your pictures are “straight from the camera”. I have no idea how to use Photoshop, or anything like that either.
    Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

    1. Haha.. I knew that you have deleted them all πŸ˜€
Glad that you agree that blur is beautiful. Well in fact Photoshop is an amazing tool if you know how to use it properly. It can totally give a new dimension to any picture if used by an expert!
And Thank you very much for leaving a comment. Do share your blurry picture next time πŸ˜‰
