Poetry on Rock : Adalaj Stepwell

It was during my hitch hiking trip to Ahmedabad, I went to see this marvellous craftsmanship. A stepwell in Adalaj, Ahmedabad.

A stepwell is are well or ponds in which the water may be reached by descending a set of steps. They may be covered and protected and are often of architectural significance.

There are a lot of stepwells in Gujarat, but the one in Adalaj is the famous one.

If you want to know more about the history of Adalaj stepwell, you can read it on Wikipedia.

I am going to show you what my eyes got attracted to. The carvings, the poems written on rocks by master craftsmen!

This is one of my favourite part of the Stepwell. This picture is the header for my Twitter and Facebook! Even the featured picture of  first post here. Now you know this picture is special to me.

So let the poetry begins.

Hope you enjoyed these poems. Hats off to the craftsmen. Salude to their determination, dedication, talent and skill.

Really wonderful to see, Jithin. Such a lot of painstaking work must have gone into creating these. Thanks for sharing your photos. 🙂

Great place. I had great memories of this place and went back again to Adalaj this year. Interestingly, I caught a pigeon sitting in almost exactly the same place as in your top photo: https://anotherglobaleater.wordpress.com/2015/03/20/the-step-well-of-adalaj/

Is there something going on in the pigeon world which we don’t know about? Would you be interested in inviting pictures of pigeons sitting at the same spot?

I too have visited this Adalaj vav…it is beautiful indeed. In fact my write up on this step well is in progress at my blog. You should also visit Rani ki Vav at Ahmedabad… http://astonishingindia.net/2014/12/31/rani-ki-vavqueens-stepwell-patan-gujrat/
