Murudeshwar offers something for everyone. If you are an adventure freak, a beach bum, just another traveller looking for some quality time alone or with family, or a religious person; this place has got something for you all!

Murudeshwar for those who interested in Hindu religion

Murudeshwar means Lord Shiva, the Hindu God. So obviously this place is connected with the religious travel circuit. And this town lies on the coast of Arabian sea, that makes it a place filled with water adventure activities. The proximity of Netrani island or the Pigeon island makes it a wonderful place to scuba dive. So just pick your category, your reason to visit Murudeshwar.

As wiki says 'Murudeshwar is a town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India'.

Murudeshwar.

Murudeshwar.

This place can boast of having the world's second tallest Shiva statue. Tallest is in Nepal. The statue is 123 feet (37 m) in height.

 Vaithalmala Trekking Diary

It was in 2014, I did my first trekking during the monsoons. Many people either conveniently avoid trekking in the rain or not even think about it at all! But once you do that, it is altogether a new experience.

There were three friends including myself, for this trek. We decided to go to Paithalmala (Vailthalmala), the highest geographic peak in Kannur district in Kerala, which is 65km away from Kannur town.  Nearest

Reaching Vaithalmala

Nearest town where you can get a direct bus to this places are Kannur and Payyannur or Thaliparamba in between these two. Nearest railway station is Kannur or Payyannur. Get a bus to Pottemplavu if not to  Kudiyanmala. Pottemplavu village is where the Paithalmala hill station is located at.

Paithalmala Map

Paithalmala Map

In this map, route from Thaliparamba is shown.

So we started off from Kannur.bus1 After bus hoping we reached Pottemplavu bus stop. The KSRTC bus ride to this place itself is beautiful, not because of the quality of the ride 😉 because of the lush greenery all around.

bus2

I like the bus journeys if it isn't too crowded, If I have a window seat and no harsh sunlight hitting on my face or a place like this -a seat near the driver, and they have some music playing; then it is a perfect journey for me! Am I asking for too much ?! 😉

Anyway we reached Pottemplavu. From there to reach the starting point of the trek, you have to travel a couple of kilometres. If you have a vehicle with you, it saves a lot of time and money. Seeing our back packs and all, autorickshaw drivers started offering us help, in return they were doing a highway robbery. Taking a jeep till the base was even more expensive. So we decided to walk all the way till the base!

Reaching The Base

It was already raining randomly. So we put on our raincoats and got ready for the 'trekking in raining'. It was my first experience and I was all excited about the trek. We started walking to the base. There is a 'well maintained' road till the Paithalmala valley.

We enjoyed walking through this beautiful place. It was so green everywhere and it was drizzling.

Why travelling is so much fun in Kerala

Postcards from Kerala

Today we can dig deep and find some funny reasons.

We sell fish at your doorstep

We sell fish at your doorstep

If it is not Kerala, where else can you get fish at your doorstep irrespective of season or weather or whatever! With their unique style of "koooooi" sound (Its not the cooing sound, but a sound that resembles to Kooooooi, the longer the better )

Like a wake up call, they come everyday morning, making this sound. Hearing their voice even cats used to come from nowhere hoping to get a couple of small fishes. Earlier they used to use bicycles, but now they have upgraded to mileage bikes! So no matter what, may it be heavy rain or scorching heat, this people will be at your doorstep everyday with fresh fish directly from the fishermen! If you love eating fish everyday, you got a reason to love Kerala

Freedom of choices

Freedom of choices

Even if you want to buy a hat, didn't you see you have a lot of choices! Depending upon your budget, time, comforts, requirements, likes, dislikes whatever it may be, you can find something or the other that suits you. if you are looking for  tourist package you have house boats, hill stations, trekking trails, pilgrimage spots and much more to choose from.  If you are looking for hotel to stay for the night, you can find it as low as 250 rupees per day or less to 10,000 rupees per day or more.  Same goes with restaurants, cloths and almost everything. I guess its more or less same everywhere in India. So vast range of choices makes Kerala an attractive tourist destination.

Update : This post and the other #KeralaMillionReasons posts became one of the winners of this contest. The gift sent by Kerala Tourism Department arrived safely at home. Thank you Kerala Tourism Dept.

Today I found on Kerala tourism twitter page about a contest. You need to post pictures stating one of the million reasons why you love Kerala. This idea made me go through my picture collections to find some Kerala pictures. Through my pictures I was finding my reasons to love Kerala. Some may sound funny, some you will agree and some you will agree to disagree. Anyway I found that I can frame a lot of pictures and frame it to hang it on my own wall. Kerala offers so many picturesque locations and that will be my prime reason to love to travel all around Kerala.

So I am going to share my #KeralaMillionReasons pictures along with reasons.

Live in greenery

Live in greenery

Where else can you live and immerse yourself in so much lush green environment?

I was born and brought up in Kerala. So that is my first and foremost reason to love Kerala. Its my home state and it is so green everywhere, especially during monsoons. This is a view from Kannur. Kannur is in Malabar region, North of Kerala.

During Monsoons

During Monsoons

Talking about Monsoons. It not only offers beautiful greenery but certain scenery like the one above. This is Dharmadam island during Monsoons. Yet another beautiful view that made me love Kerala one more time.

People often think about the difference between love and lust. Maybe there is a very thin line between them. But for me there is a lust that I love! Yes, it is WANDERLUST. If you have ever bitten by the wanderlust bug, you are gone! There is no turning back. You will keep on finding reasons to travel. It will act as a drug! Even if you cant find money to travel, you will find ways of getting that wanderlust high. You will find new ways of travelling, new modes of travelling. You will be invincible when it comes to travelling! That's about my lust.

Now about love. I have fallen in love long back. I used to drool over her, yet she seemed to be beyond my reach. I needed to be a little bit wealthier  to have her in my life, I believed. And I made enough money to woo her. And I have fallen deeply in love, with... my first DSLR and photography in general.

This lust and love go hand in hand together. Like gypsies travel and sell things, I travel and capture things. I guess I am one of the many people embracing this new lifestyle. Nowadays everyone's passion is travelling and photography it seems! I am no exception. So I am joining the league. I think I am also joining the league of travel bloggers too!

Professional Travel bloggers are a new breed of people who get paid to travel! How cool is that! Getting paid to see things, savour the local cuisine, capture the moments, documenting the bizarre events. They sound totally cool to me! So I am on my way to become yet another travel blogger who wants to travel and click pictures during the process, I do take pictures otherwise too. I will share all of them if you are there to support me with your kindness. Thank you.

A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step

I am sitting in my room on this rainy evening pondering over my future, about being a nomad, about the life of a hobo and about being an entrepreneur. Thoughts were never ending. What I needed was some action.

Long back, around in 600 BC Lao-Tzu reminded us something. Whatever he said was translated something like: " A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step". If you study this words of wisdom in depth in the light of Physics, we can find that, it even refers to Newton's Laws of motion regarding inertia!

Okay! I will stop being exaggerating. My point was that I took this step as an escape from my state of inertia. Today I created this page and posting the first blog post. I am hoping to share with you my travel memories and memories frozen as photographs.

Thanking everyone for your future support and kindness.
