Reading Time: 3 minutes

Kundadri Hills, Yet another beautiful place in the Western Ghats. It was during my Agumbe trip, I got a chance to visit this breathtakingly beautiful place.

Kundadri is around 17km from Agumbe. As there was some sort of time constraints in this trip, I decided to take an auto rickshaw aka tuk-tuk to this place. I have met an auto driver the previous day and he agreed to take me there.

Getting Ready for the Auto Ride

Getting Ready for the Auto Ride

I wanted to go there early in the  morning, but the auto guy suggested that, it wouldn’t be a great idea as it was raining during that time. So we decided to start around 9.30 in the morning.

Cruising through the highway

Cruising through the highway

The highway was super nice. And rain stayed away from my plans. It was a great day for exploring a place. Soon we reached the diversion from the highway to the narrower way to Kundadri.

Road to Kundadri

Road to Kundadri

The road itself said, “You are nearing the destination”. The texture of the road changed, The altitude started changing,  the sound of engine started to change. This road had some really tricky curves like in the ghat roads. The tuk tuk struggled a lot at certain places.

The elevation of Kundadri is 826 meters. And at the top of the hill, there is an ancient Jain temple which is believed to be constructed in 17th century.

After some struggle we reached the top.

Kundadri Hills Welcomes you

This was the end of the road. From this point, one has to take a few more steps to reach the top of the hill. In this place one can park their vehicles safely.

I think this was the easiest way I have ever reached the top of a hill. At the end of the step, breath taking views and the Jain temple were waiting for me.

According to Wikipedia “This hill is known for 17th century Jain temple dedicated to Thirthankara and the place is known to have given shelter to one Kundakunda Muni during earlier centuries. ”

I could see some stone statues of the Jain sages out side the temple.

And this temple at the top of the hill offers some amazing views.

The weather was nice. The view was nicer.

Who is there?!

Who is there?!

And there wasn’t any other human soul to disturb the tranquillity. Oops and these folks too 😉

Lonely Tree

And a few trees living their life all alone at the top of the hill.

Who wants to live here?

Who wants to live here?

And some others were living a life away from the crowd which could be seen only from a higher ground.

I just soaked in the pretty view, feeling the lovely gentle wind and spent some time there. There wasn’t much things to do other than just enjoying the beauty. I wish I could see the sunrise or sunset from there. But time constraints didn’t allow it.

So I walked back to my auto..

Journey Back from Kundadri

And started my Journey back to Agumbe.

It was a very short trip and relatively an easy one.

Our agreed rate for the auto was  ₹ 400/- . but I visited a few other places and ended up paying ₹ 500/-. The auto driver was very helpful and patient. If anyone planning a similar trip, I can give you the contact number of this guy.

If you have your own vehicle, you can go till the top easily. There is ample place for safe parking too.

Night trek is prohibited. The gate will be closed at night. On weekday, if you are going early in the morning also, you can find the gate to be closed, at times. The gate keeper stays somewhere nearby the main road, in case if you find it closed.

This one of the best spots to watch Sunset and Sunrise.
